Did you receive a letter from the U.S. Office of Personnel management?
The Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs received phone calls this week from concerned residents about letters they received claiming to be from the U.S. Government.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management recently sent out letters to victims of the data breach that occurred a few months ago and affected 21.5 million people. These letters give information about a website with access to free identity protection. These letters are real. The letters direct you to a website https://www.opm.gov/cybersecurity/ and tell you how to proceed if you were affected.
Be sure that you only go to the official website. As with any large breach, imposters could send out fake notices trying to steal your personal information. If you have questions about a notification you received contact the U.S. Office of Personnel Management at 1-866-408-4555 or visit the website at https://www.opm.gov/cybersecurity/.
