If you were scammed, understand that you are not alone. Scams are a big business, and scammers have learned to be very convincing. Although it’s a shock to realize you were scammed, taking quick action to report scams can help you limit the damage. 

 

If you lost money

  1. First try to stop the payment. Use our Stop Scam Payments tip sheet to find out how to stop recently made payments.
  2. Contact your police department to see if it will take a report. If the scam occurred online, consider filing a report with the FBI at ic3.gov
  3. Report the scam to Scam Squad. Cuyahoga County residents 
    should call 216-443-7226 for help reporting and recovering from scams.

If you lost personal information

Personal information is private information – like Social Security numbers, account numbers or passwords -- that can be used to access your account.
