If You Were Scammed
If you were scammed, understand that you are not alone. Scams are a big business, and scammers have learned to be very convincing. Although it’s a shock to realize you were scammed, taking quick action to report scams can help you limit the damage.
If you lost money
- First try to stop the payment. Use our Stop Scam Payments tip sheet to find out how to stop recently made payments.
- Contact your police department to see if it will take a report. If the scam occurred online, consider filing a report with the FBI at ic3.gov
- Report the scam to Scam Squad. Cuyahoga County residents
should call 216-443-7226 for help reporting and recovering from scams.

If you lost personal information
Personal information is private information – like Social Security numbers, account numbers or passwords -- that can be used to access your account.
